protecting them from us
a first. hopefully this is a bellwether. it seems small, in the scope of things, but something is better than nothing. also, regarding humankind's record of how it treats non-human animals, this is pretty significant - rights. i would like for this to serve as a catalyst for new ways of thinking about so many other lives with whom we share this planet.
of course, i would prefer a revolution of liberation, freeing all forms of life from their cages, stalls and the threat of knife. i do not see that happening anytime soon. i think we are gonna have to wait till collapse for that one to take place, if only because people will not be able to sustain the rigorous demands of industry and technology to keep these current methods of enslavement in operation.

ridiculous
the white house made explicit its refusal to open an email from the environmental protection agency containing its "conclusion that greenhouse gases are pollutants that must be controlled." if you don't acknowledge it, it must go away? this is beyond childish. this is how the fucking government works. incredible.
"Over the past five days, the officials said, the White House successfully put pressure on the E.P.A. to eliminate large sections of the original analysis that supported regulation, including a finding that tough regulation of motor vehicle emissions could produce $500 billion to $2 trillion in economic benefits over the next 32 years."
we live under an economic system with laws to keep it running profitably, not a political system.

lol @ john mccain
McCain told a town-hall questioner on Monday that he was unsure of the extent of any oil speculation, but if it has boosted the price of a barrel by 50 percent — as he has heard from some analysts — or just 1 percent, "then it seems to me there should be a thorough and complete investigation."
He added: "If there is anybody who took advantage of Americans in order to enrich themselves, then it's unacceptable."

food scarcity
the result of unrestrained population growth, primarily provided through medical technology. technology for its own sake. keeping people alive longer just so that we can live longer; there is no logical reason for it.
